South Dakota Child Care: Providers & the Public Record
Childcare Alerts indexes every licensed child care provider in South Dakota from the state's public provider portal. This report summarizes the landscape and points you to each provider's official inspection and enforcement record. It is a factual overview, not a safety rating of any provider.
South Dakota has 723 operational licensed child care providers on public record, across 142 cities. Unlike Minnesota, South Dakota doesn't publish a statewide quality rating — but it does publish each provider's inspection and enforcement history on its official portal, which we link to on every provider page.
Provider types
| Type | Providers |

| Licensed Center | 308 |

Enforcement & inspections
We surface each provider's inspection compliance history — the compliance plans, corrective-action plans, and stipulations published on South Dakota's official portal — right on its provider page, with a link to the official document. A compliance plan is routine in South Dakota (most providers file one after normal inspection findings), so we present those neutrally; corrective-action plans and stipulations are flagged as more serious.
A provider with no record shown on Childcare Alerts has not necessarily had a clean inspection history — always open the official record linked on the provider's page.

Methodology & source
Provider roster: the South Dakota DSS Office of Licensing & Accreditation public provider portal (olapublic.sd.gov). Childcare Alerts surfaces and summarizes these public records; the official government record always controls, and the absence of a record is not a guarantee of safety. Childcare Alerts is an independent service, not affiliated with any state agency.
